In November 1800
a small group of women in France dedicated themselves to the Sacred Heart.
Among them was  a young woman called
Madeleine Sophie Barat who became the foundress and
first Superior General of the Society of the Sacred Heart.
Many years later another French woman
Philippine Duchesne begged to be allowed to answer
a call to work with native Americans. In 1818,  Philippine with a small
group of religious, landed in USA.
Since then religious of the Sacred Heart can be found in different parts
of the world- Africa, Asisa, Europe, South America, Australia
as today they are  present in all five continents, in forty-two countries,
engaging in a variety of ministries
for the glory of God and the promotion of Gospel values.

In some parts of the world the communities are very international. For administration purposes we are divided into thirty-three provinces and our mother house, the centre of our administration, is in Rome.
